Today I’m interviewing Colin, a student at The Open School. Colin is twelve years old and this is his first year at our school.
Why did you decide to come to The Open School?
At public school I couldn’t be myself. Here, we can use our computers all we want.
What kinds of things do you like to do here?
I rap and listen to music, obviously like I’m doing now. I also like to play video games.
Are you going to do something for the school’s end-of-the-year music show?
I might do a rap. I could do Rice Balls by Pink Guy.
If you had a thousand dollars, what would you spend it on?
I would get an Alienware 13 computer because my current computer sucks. If I had that I could play Unturned.
What’s the best field trip you’ve done at The Open School?
We went on a tour of Blizzard [the video game company]. We saw developers & artists working on the game Overwatch.
Have you thought about becoming a game developer?
Yeah. I made a game on Roblox but it’s terrible. I would like to be a professional game developer someday. I would make zombie survival first-person shooter.
You have your own corporation at school, right?
Yeah, Anarchy Rising Corporation is the school’s Nerf gun company. It’s for when you want the fun of zombie survival shooter games in real life. We’ll be getting some assault rifles soon. Then we’ll play Anarchy Rising in real life.
(Looking at a globe) What part of the world will the game take place in?
If it were zombies, Soviet Russia. Aliens, Antarctica. Anarchy, The United States.
If zombies attacked The Open School, what would you do?
I’d grab some knives from the kitchen. If aliens come we’re screwed unless I get my hands on one of their guns. Their technology is way too advanced for us.
